Motorola India now testing Android 5.0 on Moto E

NEW DELHI: While Moto G and Moto X (both first- and second-generation models) have already received the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update in India, the ultra-cheap Moto E has been left out.

However, that is now changing as Motorola India is now inviting members of the Motorola Feedback Network for the Android 5.0 soak test for Moto E, thus making India the testing ground for the software upgrade for the smartphone.

If the soak test goes well, with no major functionality issues or bugs, Motorola will release the software update to Moto E as an over-the-air (OTA) update in a few weeks.

Motorola last week disclosed that it has sold 3 million smartphones in India in less than a year, with the low-cost Moto E and G making up for a large share of the sales volume.

Motorola runs the stock version of Android, with no additional skins that clutter the UI. However, it does preload some of its own apps on the smartphones.

Android 5.0 brings the biggest update to Google's mobile operating system, with major design and user interface overhaul and better security and performance.
